Non-fishing days

8/1/09 we had our first slow morning with nowhere important to go.
Greg and Ethan mowed the lawn.
We went to Sterling to see the wood carvings.
There is a carousel made totally of wood.
We wandered through the shops.
I think Doug's dad is going to try his hand at bear carving when he gets home.

This T-shirt is dedicated to my friends and family in Texas.

We went to Skilak lake to hike the Hidden Creek trail. As we all piled out of the car, a man with a gun came literally running from the trail with sweat pouring down his face. He said there was a bear on the trail. We went in search of another trail. There was a sign at the trail head that a bear was recently spotted on the trail. We tried a third trail. We got Ethan loaded into the hiking backpack and the other boys nicely coated in bug spray and headed out. Less than 10 yards up the trail was fresh bear poop. We turned right back around and decided to just go have a nice picnic.
On the way home, Greg and Grant thought they better check out the red fishing technique. They went red fishing the next two morning.
Also on the way home we spotted moose at the side of the highway.
8/2/09 - Our day of rest.
Nolan explaining the complexities of Transformers to Greg.
The obligatory Sunday morning family photo for Grandma.
The lake from our boat dock.
S'mores!
